The Euro-Asia Tourism Studies Association (EATSA) commitment with sustainable tourism development.
The current context of uncertainty generated by Covid-19 has only made even more evident all the inconsistency of the dominant approaches prevailing in tourism, both at regional/national and international level: the omnipresent rhetoric about sustainable tourism is deeply divorced from the real commitment with the sustainable tourism development.
Therefore, all people who can influence the future of tourism are now facing an ethical dilemma: to ignore what is happening in the world by continuing to insist in the mistakes of the past, or to assume their share of responsibility in adopting good practices and creating models of tourism development that are more environmentally sustainable, fairer and better suited to fully meeting the real needs of all human beings, considering the various players in the system: tourists, local communities, tourism industry workers, entrepreneurs, and many other stakeholders.
The EATSA Art & Tourism Film Festival (acronym: EATSA – ATFF) adopts a set of the principles underlying the “Manifesto for the regeneration of the tourism sector” aiming the regeneration of the tourism sector through a socially equitable, environmentally respectful and economically sustainable model. This way, the Euro-Asia Tourism Studies Association will become a protagonist of change by giving greater prominence and weight to tourism films whose messages contribute to:
- Catalysing socio-economic development, considering not only economic aspects but a social, educational or cultural development indicators.
- Promoting gender equality and decent working conditions.
- Generating improvements in people’s quality of life, based on respect and the conservation of environmental resources, reducing their contribution to climate change.
- Preserving and enhancing the cultural identity of each territory.
