The Euro-Asia Tourism Studies Association (EATSA) commitment to sustainable tourism development.
The overall context of uncertainty generated by Covid-19 has only made more evident the inconsistency of the dominant approaches prevailing in tourism, both at a regional/national and international level: the omnipresent rhetoric about sustainable tourism is deeply disconnected from the real commitment to sustainable tourism development.
Hence, all people who can influence the future of the industry are faced with an ethical dilemma: to ignore what is happening in the world by continuing to repeat the mistakes of the past, or to assume their share of responsibility in the need to change mindsets and adopt good practices. This can only be achieved by creating development models, that are more environmentally sustainable, fairer and better suited to fully meet the real needs of all human beings in the system: tourists, local communities, tourism industry workers, entrepreneurs, and a range of other stakeholders.
The EATSA Art & Tourism Film Festival adopts a set of the principles aiming the transformation of the tourism sector through a socially equitable, environmentally respectful and economically sustainable model. The Euro-Asia Tourism Studies Association (EATSA) will thus become a protagonist of change by giving greater prominence and weight to films whose messages can contribute to:
- Catalysing socio-economic development, considering not only economic aspects but social, educational or cultural development indicators.
- Promoting gender equality and decent working conditions.
- Generating improvements in people’s quality of life, based on respect and the conservation of environmental resources, reducing their contribution to climate change.
- Preserving and enhancing the social and cultural identity of local communities and territories.
EATSA.
The EATSA – Euro-Asia Tourism Studies Association is committed to the best practices in Tourism and Hospitality Research, ensuring high standards of international cooperation, with the aim to bolster the scientific knowledge of the industries.
EATSA aims to:
- Promote research and education in the field of tourism, hospitality and recreation in Asia and Europe, with a special focus on comparative international studies.
- Promote the dialogue among scholars of all scientific disciplines engaged in tourism studies, in order to move from the current multi-disciplinary approach to a more integrated and trans-disciplinary approach.
- Foster closer connections between tourism academia and the tourism industry.
- Encourage the exchange of research results, practical experience, and ideas by organising conferences, meetings and developing research networks among members and institutions.
- Promote a more intensive cooperation between European and Asian scholars in the fields of Tourism, Hospitality and Recreation.
- Disseminate research results through various channels.
